ST. ELIZABETH OF HUNGRY AND HER SIGNIFICANCE TO ST. MARY'S
Today is the feast of St. Elizabeth of Hungry. She was born in 1207, married the landgrave Luis IV of Germany and was the mother of 3 children. She is famous for her generous care of the poor and sick. She died at the age of 24 in 1231 and was canonized in 1235.
St. Elizabeth of Hungry is a very significant saint for Sandusky’s St. Mary’s Church for it is from St. Elizabeth Church in Marburg Germany that our own St. Mary’s Church is built and modeled after and it is from St. Elizabeth in Marburg that many of the founders of St. Mary’s Church came from.
St. Elizabeth of Hungry can be seen in the stained glass window in the very front of church; the second window from the right. As in most art work depicting St. Elizabeth, she is seen in her princely robes with a crown and bears an apron full of roses. St. Boniface, the patron saint of Germany, is the other saint depicted in that window.

HEIDELBERG UNIVERSITY CONCERT CHOIR AND CHAMBER SINGERS TO PERFORM IN ST. MARY'S
The Heidelberg University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Grant W. Cook III, will perform on Wednesday, May 18 at 7:30 PM in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The program, which includes works by Franz Schubert, Dieterich Buxtehude, Stephen Chatman, Ola Gjeilo, Kinley Lange, Joan Szymko, James Syler and Gwyneth Walker, is free and open to the public.
Since its inception in 1938, the Heidelberg Concert Choir has achieved the distinction of being one of the outstanding collegiate choral ensembles in the Midwest, touring extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
